Chain & Forge Plaza, Granville Island
The name “Chain & Forge” pays tribute to the industrial history of the site, reinforcing the island’s gritty, creative roots.
In 2025, City Blocks was proud to partner with CMHC to bring new life to Chain & Forge with a suite of urban interventions designed to spark play and participation.
Chain & Forge Plaza is a public plaza located on Granville Island in Vancouver, British Columbia. It’s part of a broader initiative by the Granville Island Trust and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to reimagine underused spaces on the island into vibrant public gathering spots on Granville Island. Situated on the east end of Granville Island, near the Granville Island Brewing Co. and Ocean Concrete silos.
Chain & Forge is designed for cultural programming, including concerts, markets, art installations, and community events. It’s meant to act as a bridge between the artistic legacy of Granville Island and its future as a more publicly engaging, inclusive place.
